About

Hello there,

I like electronics, DIY, computer stuff and I thought it would be nice to share my useless hobbies. Just because ‘useless’ often means ‘fun’.

By the way, I’m French, so I can sometimes have a bad English. 😉

Have fun with silicon!

    Hey Oryx,
first of all a wanna say: Great job! Well done :o)!!!

    So i´ve there a question too ;o):
the used optocoupler (U5) for the MIDI section, is it an 4N33?
Is it fast enough, cause i heard, that most of all other prefer e.g an 6N139?

    Regards, andY

Hi, thanks for your comment. 🙂

I use a 4N35. It’s not the fastest optocoupler, but it is cheap and fast enough for MIDI applications.
Its maximum switch time is 10µs, so the maximum signal frequency is 1/(2*0.00001) = 50 kHz, which is more than the 31250 bauds of a MIDI signal.

It works fine with the ATMega USART, maybe you need faster optocouplers with some microcontrollers.

      Regards

    Best regards,
